The 1885 Music Hall is owned and operated by a nonprofit organization. 

Our mission is three-fold: to present diverse and relevant programming in music, theater, dance, and film for the enrichment of the tri-state community; to promote arts education through classes, partnerships, performing opportunities, and residencies; and to preserve and restore the historic Music Hall so that it may continue to be a vibrant performing arts center and catalyst for sustainable economic development in our area.

Young Musicianship Classes

For Pre-K – 2nd grade
Based on the teachings of Dalcroze, Kodaly and Orff, the class introduces young children to music fundamentals through joyful explorations of pitch, rhythm, dynamics, movement and more.

This one-hour ukulele class is a wonderful way for parents and their children to bond while learning to play a musical instrument together, and the ukulele is a fun and joyous instrument to play! Parents and kids learn to tune, strum chords and play songs. Ukuleles are supplied or students may bring their own. Included in the class are felt ukulele picks to help with strumming and a digital tuner that clips onto your uke.

Renowned NYC vocal coach, teacher, and director Bob Marks will be coming to The Music Hall! He brings with him a lifetime of experience in musical theatre and an encyclopedic knowledge of songs and shows. He is able to guide performers of all ages and levels of ability to present themselves at their best.

He has coached cast members of almost every current Broadway musical, and former students have included Laura Bell Bundy, Kerry Butler, Deborah Gibson, Ariana Grande, Nikki M. James, Ricki Lake, Constantine Maroules, Lea Michele, Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman, Christy Carlson Romano, Lea Salonga, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Britney Spears, and Ashley Tisdale.

Mr. Marks holds a degree in speech and voice pathology, and has taught at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy and the Weist-Barron School in New York. He has been Special Guest Instructor at the Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia, The New York Singing Teachers’ Association (NYSTA) Professional Development Program at Columbia University, The Voice Foundation Symposium: Care of the Professional Voice, and at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Education. He has given workshops, master classes and seminars internationally. His articles have appeared in several publications, including the internationally recognized Journal of Singing.

The session will include tips on song selection, accompanist interaction, lyric interpretation, and preparation for “real world” theatre audition situations.

If you elect to pay more than $75, the amount over $75 will be considered a tax-deductible donation and will go towards our Education Fund to help students in need.

The Tween Scene Class is dedicated to fostering young actors’ growth as theater artists. Through work on improvisation, and scenes and monologues from contemporary and classic plays, students are introduced to techniques of script analysis, character development, speech, and movement; laying the groundwork for spontaneous, moment-to-moment acting essential to creating meaningful, fully-developed, truthful performances. Sessions will culminate in an invited workshop presentation, showcasing the actors’ work.

As an original cast member of Disney's hit Broadway show Aladdin, Lauryn understudied Princess Jasmine and other roles in the award-winning production. She has performed on the 2014 Tony Awards, The View, Good Morning America, Tamron Hall and the Disney Singalong on ABC. Before making her Broadway debut in Aladdin, Lauryn toured the United States with notable productions including West Side Story, A Chorus Line, The Addams Family, The Wizard of Oz, The Wedding Singer and The Little Mermaid. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Purchase College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Purdue University.

Lauryn works with all ages, but specializes in guiding younger performers who are interested in taking their vocal talent and musicality to the next level. Vocal lessons start with a warm-up that emphasizes vocal technique, breath support, range and tonality. Musical theater, pop, jazz and classical music repertoire are offered.

  Lessons are private (one student) or semi-private (two students).

30-minute lessons: $75
  45-minute lessons: $100

Skills include: Tightwire, aerial arts (silks, lyra, cube, spanish web, static trapeze), acrobatics, tumbling, juggling, prop manipulation, physical comedy, gymnastics and dance.

Ensemble/Troupe Time: Ensemble work includes partner acrobatics, group acts, and any activity that requires the full cast to work together.  This is the time in which we reinforce teamwork, trust, friendships, and peer-mentoring. 

Act Creation: Once campers choose their favorite circus disciplines, they begin the act creation process. This is a fun, creative, and self-expressive exercise. on student input and expert direction by instructors.

Student Show: On the last day of camp (typically 2pm-3pm), parents are invited to see our camp show. This is a fun and exciting showcase of skills. Campers are invited to showcase everything they learned during the week. The showcase is fun and low pressure and everyone is expected to participate.

Enrollment is limited to 35 students on a first come first served basis.
